Golden Oldies Senior/Light

Golden Oldies Senior/Light Dog Food

(50 customer reviews)

Do our older pooches not deserve the same tailored nutrition that those young whipper-snappers have?  We definitely think so.  UK leading nutritionists designed our Senior food with their needs in mind.  It brings the best out in their coat/skin, and keeps their digestion in tip-top shape too.  It also works really well with overweight dogs of any age, and those with Pancreatitis and Colitis.

A Few of The Reasons This Food is So Good…

As dogs get older their nutritional needs change due to less active lifestyles, and slower metabolisms.  We’ve designed a food that is suited perfectly to older dogs, but still has our usual criteria for dog tastiness.  Why should younger dogs have all the fun, and our golden oldies be left with bland dog food?

But wait, it’s also ideally suited to overweight dogs, and those trying to get lean for their summer!  Lower calories and a fat content of only 7% make this a must have for overweight dogs.

Nothing Naughty, Just Goodness

We’ve aimed to be better than many of the other dog food brands available to buy which is why we strictly monitor what goes in to our food. We don’t use any artificial colourings, preservatives or flavourings because we strongly believe that this has an overwhelming impact on the long term health of your best friend.

Great Taste Dogs Salivate Over

You may think we’re going on about this a bit, but this food is loved by dogs.  Our customers consistently report that their dogs have never enjoyed dinner time so much.  Our ingredients are hand chosen for taste, as well as the nutritional benefits provided.

Healthier Skin & Coat Guarantee

The inclusion of the fantastic four: Zinc, Biotin, Omega 3 & 6 Fatty Acids help maintain healthy skin and coat in dogs. Our customers notice a superb healthy shine like never before!

Smaller, Less Smelly Poos

Who likes cleaning up after their dog? We don’t.  Since we use highly digestible quality ingredients the food is easily digested.  Ingredients are chosen to be sensitive on digestion to help things process gently and efficiently.

100% Hypoallergenic

It is totally hypoallergenic meaning that you don't have to worry about negative reactions.  Everything is hand chosen to be gentle on digestion, work well with sensitive dogs, and help them reach their health potential.

Provides Everything They Need

This has been designed by nutritionists and vets to be a complete food for long term health and happiness.  Everything added is there for a reason.  Stop worrying about whether their food is actually a good choice for them!

  1. Brenda

I have two border collies, 13 and 14, one of whom has suffered from colitis all her life, and two jacks, one ten, one seven. My eldest collie recently had an attack of vestibular disease, and I believe the diet she has been on for some time now helped her to overcome this attack. This is only my opinion. They are my ‘girls’! They all dance when I am preparing their food, the ten year old jack is very vocal too!! They all love their senior GT , my collie with colitis has never been so well, I cannot praise Growling Tums enough. Delivery is brilliant, next day if ordered Monday to Thursday, or Monday if ordered on a Friday, I am so glad I found Growling Tums.

  2. Helen

I’ve tried my rescue black lab on several foods over the years to try and improve his skin and coat. For a long time now he’s been on a very well known sensitive food that I was told by a dog trainer was the best dog food available. However his skin remained flakey and his coat coarse and dull. I am still weaning him over to Growling Tums ( almost there at 90% GT’s) and his coat is soft and shining, skin a lot less flakey and tummy more settled. Very pleased….and I don’t normally write reviews !!

  3. Leanne

My Alaskan Malamute has been on this food for 3 months now and I’m pleased with the result but have found no difference in hair loss. I will keep using it as it’s got plenty of natural goodness for a good price.

  4. ELIZABETH

After reading the reviews about this dog food I was desperately hoping it would be the answer to my prayers and our home would no longer reek of doggy flatulence. Unfortunately this was not to be. I have two 9yr old dogs (both adopted from the age of 5) one is a female Dalmatian the other a male Shar Pei. Both have been a bit windy in the past,Dottie the Dalmatian bolts her food down even though I bought an anti-gulp bowl from day one which slowed her down a bit but she still swallows a lot of air when feeding. Luckily her flatulence isn’t smelly but can’t say the same for Marley the Shar Pei. If you wanted to evacuate a building in record time just send him in. My husband sits most evenings with his sweatshirt pulled up over his nose to stop breathing in the awful smell that Marley likes to share with him(Marley likes to lie by his feet with his rear end nearest him) I’m usually at the other end of the sofa out of range. Marley is on steroids due to an allergy which causes ear problems. Vet said he’s not certain but it’s possible this is causing him to suffer with excessive flatulence. I’ve ordered the grain free Pork, sweet potato and apple food so hoping we may have better results with it. If not going to have to resort to putting pegs on our noses lol The dogs do love the food though so hope that latest food will be the one to cure Marleys problem

  5. Mark

This is the ONLY dog food, and I have tried him on several versions from cheap to very expensive, that doesn’t cause Murphy to fart daily. It’s gone from every day wind to once a week or less.

Also stools are a lot firmer so a lot easier when scooping off the lawn. On top of that his coat looks really good and his movement is a lot better.

Couldn’t recommend this dog food highly enough 🙂

  6. Ana

I cannot recommend this food highly enough. Bertie our 10 year old Golden loves it and his coat has got back it’s shine. There are no more nastily smells and he is full of energy and loving life again.

  7. Pat Stewart

I bought the senior food about 6 weeks ago and I have to say how delighted I am with this food. Meg is an overweight 11 year old Kelpie who loves her food and has had a problem all her life with constant hair loss which is very embarrassing when we have visitors and their clothes get covered in her hair. I have a stock of sticky rollers for visitors!! I realised last week that her coat is absolutely beautiful and glossy and she is having little or no hair loss now. I had tried all kinds of suggestions with no success to solve this as her coat has been getting thinner but now we have no problem at all. Thank you very much

  8. CJ GERRIE

I needed to change my 10 year old Labrador’s food, Digby had eaten Dr John Silver Medal working dog type food for nine years. I’ve always been strict with not giving out treats/snacks, but he had developed a touch of middle aged spread anyway – along with monstrous breath and some almighty guffage. After a mortifying trip to the vet (who told me Digby was “obese” at 30.8kg) I decided to try our dog on Growling Tums and I am so delighted; he loves the food and has lost 600g in just under three weeks, so the formulation must be just right. His breath is positively sweet in comparison, there has been absolutely no guffage in my presence, toileting is so much less grim than it was and our hound has all the bounce and energy of a younger dog which is a delight to see…I was sceptical about so-called premium dog foods with daft names but I wholeheartedly recommend the Golden Oldies feed!

  9. Lesley Freeman

Our staffie Max has only been on the food for a few days but we can already see a difference in his movement
He seems much happier in himself, we can now start to build him up to longer periods of exercise, in turn this then will help to reduce his weight
He has been on a feed from the vets for 3 months which worked well at first for his weight but then came to a grinding halt because he just was getting stiff in his joints and his weight loss stopped
It is obvious he really loves the taste of the food, he now sits waiting by his bowl at feed times, after which we are presented with a clean bowl which is truly polished!

  10. Anne kinnear

Fantastic!!!!! Winston loves it.. No nasty windypops, now getting his “waist back”.
Winston is a 9 year old yellow lab, and was a little overweight. He has lost weight, he now trots along when we go walkies.. I feel he is more satisfied having this food. Will definitely recommend and will be re- ordering when needed. THANKYOU.

  11. jayne

We have previously had problems with foods upsetting Cassies’ stomach. But we are nearly to the end of our first bag of Growling Tums and have had no trouble at all. Also, she can be a bit of a fussy eater but right from day one she has happily tucked into it. We’ll definitely be ordering more.

  12. Natasha

I was looking for a good senior / light food for my 11 year old staff x collie. Over the last couple of years he has started to gain weight and as a result started suffering with pain and stiffness in his back legs. I searched the Internet for reasonably priced, good quality dog food. What I found was golden oldies, now I have to admit he wasn’t sold on it at first but as our 3 year old staff decided that it would be a great idea to steal his food he soon started demolishing it just so she couldn’t. He now looks forward to meal times and to top it off he has lost weight and is moving so much better. I have now just re ordered our second batch along with some for our little girl (dog not child) ? as she deserves nothing but the best. Thank you growling tums for making my best friends happier and healthier.

  13. Samantha

We have a motley crew of 4 dogs ranging from a GSD down to a terrier and we have them all on the Golden Oldies diet. They love it, have super shiny coats and no nasty odours so far … everyone is happy!! Just ordered our second batch too :0)

  14. Katie Beckley

After having 3 rounds of chemotherapy and being on steroids my Staffy had gained a little too much weight. After being given the all clear I started the senior/lite food. He is happy and losing weight and looking better than ever x

  15. Mary

Sid has been on Growling Tums Golden Oldies Senior for a couple of months now, and he is loving it. Loosing a bit of weight, more agility and his coat has definitely improved. Laura is very helpful and the delivery very prompt.

  16. Tricia Lister

Our lovely chocolate labrador ‘Rosie’ – 8 1/2 years old – had lost some weight before surgery for cruciate ligament repair, it was suggested by the Vet that she should loose quite a bit more. We read the reviews about Growling Tums Golden Oldies, and thought we should give it a try! For a labrador she can be a bit picky, but when the box of food was delivered there were signs of interest straight away, and when the food was put into her bowl she was head in, and cleared the lot with no added extras, brilliant! We think after only two weeks there is definately a slightly slimmer Rosie, and her coat is beautifully soft and shiny. Of course she is still as mad as ever but thats just our Rosie!

  17. Diana Hillier

Martha is a rescue ex working dog, a lovely natured back lab, she came with some health issues. Now about nine and a half I manage to keep these under control. Food is important so it took some thought before I changed. I am extremely happy that I did. She loves food (she’s a Labrador) I am more concerned about the after effects.she is doing very well on it, none of the issues I dread and her coat is lovely and shiny. Happy dog, happy owner!

  18. Ruth B

We have two ten year old border terriers. Our female dog will eat anything with no issue but our boy dog has ‘spikes’ disease – see link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canine_Epileptoid_Cramping_Syndrome which of course we did not know about when he was a puppy, it is horrible and causes cramping and diarrhea for which we found that our choice of dog food could affect his condition. Over the years we have tried most of the hypo allergenic foods and supplements and as long as no one gave him any beef based treats all would be fine (the only treats we now trust are milky biscuits). Recently the manufacturer of a well known and respected dog food must have changed their recipe as his condition came back. So we have changed to Growling Tums Golden Oldies and he has been fine once again which is a pleasure to see. This product is really good and I hope the folks behind Growling Tums go from strength to strength.

  19. Susanne Kerr

We are very impressed with the results of feeding our nine year old Doberman Nero on the Growling tums Golden Oldie Senior food for the past two weeks. He has always suffered from a sensitive tummy with both wind and soft stool and there has already been a marked improvement in this short period of time. We are looking forward to continued improvement.

  20. victoria vaughan

Sadly, my own whippet died last week from a bee sting, but my foster whippet now does comfortable poos, and her mouth no longer stinks. Also her coat is greatly improved after two or so weeks on this food. I will definitely recommend it to her new owners when she is rehomed

  21. Pam

My Choc lab has recently started on this food, because he is over weight, so I am hoping this will help him get a waist again.(if he does, then I might have to eat it too 🙂 ) No problems with feeding, he seems to enjoy it. I have noticed his poo is a lot firmer. Having two 7 1/2kg is a lot easier than 15kg bags.

  22. Denise

Pip loves her new food doesn’t have to be persuaded to eat her meals, and after only a few weeks has lost a couple of pounds in weight. would recommend to everyone !

  23. Peter

Hi,our 11 1/2 year old collie x lab Holly was putting on weight slowly, joints beginning to “seize”,loose poo but worst of all was the VERY smelly wind. We had tried other complete light foods but no changes.
We then tried golden oldies senior lite and the change in Hollie was totally unexpected – joints improved, weight gain slowed and is gradually falling, poo improved, wind basically stopped and the odd 1 not smelly!
Initially she was not overly happy but now loves it. SUPER food!!! Well recommended!

  24. Mbry

I have only just changed to this dog food, so early days. I changed to Growling Tums as my chocolate lab needed to loose a little weight and it was recommended to me. So far I’m delighted, Growling Tums are extremely helpful and the delivery was very prompt. Early days with the weight loss but Sid certainly loves the food.

  25. jill

My dogs have only been on the golden oldies food for a couple of weeks but their coat is much improved and shiney. They both love the taste too. Good communication from the supplier.

  26. Shirley Pannell

We have recently changed our 10 year old Labrador onto growling tums after problems with loose faeces. The difference has been very apparent, her tummy has improved massively, and the amount of faeces has halved. We are very pleased with this food.

  27. Steve R

My 12 year old terrier has never had much of an appetite, so I wasn’t really surprised when after putting Golden Oldies Senior food into her bowl, she carried out her usual routine – ate some, walked away and returned for more when she felt like it.
After reading other owners reviews, I had hoped that she would have eaten the full portion immediately; sadly no, but at least I know that she’s getting a top quality product and that the only additives are natural and included to benefit her health.

  28. Anita

brilliant Kiko loves it .Most important this food is keeping her weight down ,while still looking good and the way she jumps about!!! healthy

  29. Sarah Sparks

My two oldest cocker spaniels have changed happily to this brand in an effort to lose some weight. It is too early to comment on this aspect, but they seem to love it and kibble is of a good size and easy to eat for 14 year old. I like the 7.5k bags as easy to carry!

  30. Moira McDonald

delighted with the food. Jennys coat is shining , she has a nice breath and does not have smelly wind. I’ll monitor her weight and see how she goes, early days yet.

  31. Moira McDonald

Jenny my cocker spaniel settled immediately to Growling tums, senior and light food. Its only been a couple of weeks but her coat seems shiny, no smells wind when we are sitting in living room! So far definitely impressed. Thanks

  32. Shirley

Only just started on this food, but so far so good. Our dog has been suffering from stomach upsets, but it is settling down, the kibble size is excellent. Will review again when had the food for longer.

  33. Brenda

Both of my 13 year old dogs are overweight so this is perfect for them and they love it.

  34. Scottie

Trying senior on my old 12 yr old boxer and seems to be going well, think I may try our 18 month border terrier out with something from the range. Only improving factor would be if it was cheaper or good deals on buying two or more bags at one time.

  35. J Hayward

My Northern Innuit is 10 years old and in the past I have had feeding problems with him due to various medical diagnosis. I can say that he loves this food – he looks forward to his meals and it does seem to suit him. A very good product.

  36. Anita

My dog seems to like this food from the sample ive recieved. Just ordered 15k of it.If it keeps her weight down this food will get 5 star ,ill know in the next few weeks .Thanks

  37. John

After the usual, initial suspicion of something new, Mia (over weight GSD) accepted the food and now tucks in quite happily. Her long fur is feeling and looking much nicer. She is obviously slimming down and her old joints are coping much better. I am looking forward for a change to taking her to the vets in June. Perhaps she will have slimmed from 40kg to the vets recommended 35kg! Time will tell! If she does I will upgrade my rating to 5 stars.

  38. Robi B

Shumba is looking good on this. He has lost weight and has a very shiny coat.
I’m delighted, Shumba says he’s happy too!

  39. Howard

Dog was 2 kilos overweight, my fault, too many treats. She really loves this food as a main and for dog trick treats and has shed a few pounds on it since Xmas. She says thanks…

  40. jane W

Max who is 14 loves this and I have also put Skye on it although she is only 4 but a bit on the chubby side, both dogs are thriving on it, Skye’s weight is coming off slowly and she is a lot more agile, big plus from the Walker house xx

  41. Maria Barty

My 5 year old border collie bitch has struggled with her weight since she was spayed. I tried expensive” light” dry foods in the past which did not seem to stave her hunger. She would constantly go to her food box.Now she appears to be satisfied with her food and she is maintaining a healthy weight. Just been weighed by her vet. Smiles all round.

  42. James

I haven’t tried it myself, but my dog loves this food. She was a chronic ‘only eat half the bowl dog’ until this so I’m on board!

  43. Stuart L

This is my dog’s new favourite food. He eats it without being coddled unlike other senior foods we’ve had before. He loves it and I love it!

  44. Vicky

Having tried and failed with other light foods in the past I didn’t have much hope that this would be any different. Wow, for once it has worked and my choco Lab Mack is starting to look like his old self again.

  45. Craig

My friend had been feeding her Collie’s on this senior food for a couple of months and always talked about how much they seemed to love it. I’d been thinking about swapping my GSD to a senior food for a while and gave it a shot. He is looking fantastic as a result, with no more digestion issues. 5 out of 5.

  46. Beth

George (Wheaten Terrier), and I had been looking for a premium low fat food for a while and we’ve eventually settled on this one. He always eats all the food and he’s already looking better after a month of starting on it.

  47. Karen

If your dog is fussy and a bit overweight like mine then I’d recommend this food without a shadow of a doubt. It’s one of the few low fat foods Charlie wants to eat. No more struggles at dinnertime.

  48. Mrs Henderson

Having discussed the food at length with Laura from Growling Tums I decided to try it on my 9 year old Goldie to see how it went down. She loved it from the first day and she seems much healthier and mobile having used it for several months now.

  49. Tom

This is now the food of choice for our 2 dogs. They love it, we love it and I save money. Wins all round.

  50. Andy

Our 4 ageing dogs love this food and all look great with shiny coats nice teeth and no more bad breath. And much less smelly pumps too 🙂
